June 2004 - September 2004
Phiona took part in a study commissioned by a UK police force into the best methods for helping long-term absentee police officers return to work. All the police officers received psychology and counseling but half of them also received one reflexology session every other week over a period of three months. Remarkably, the study showed that 86% of the officers in the reflexology group returned to work whereas just 62% of the officers receiving psychology and counselling alone retuned to work.
When asked how the reflexology sessions assisted the police officers in their recovery, 50% of all respondents stated that it had helped significantly and their comments included,
“Reflexology assisted with my sleep patterns and lessened my nightmares. I would recommend it to anyone.”
