The rite of a naming ceremony bares witness to the rites of passage. The first one for the growing child upon the earth. The act of a naming gathering is an ancient one that takes us back to our ancestors. The recognition of the soul incarnated into the physical as it embarks upon its journey. Naming this soul gives it is identity upon the earth brining protection and guidance from the elders that reside within spirit.
It welcomes the child into the fold of the family and community to which it belongs. It is not binding to any one religion but to that of nature and the elements of the earth on where we reside. A protective circle is drawn as family and friends gather in celebration to carve the place of the one to be named within the the passage of the path to be walked. The souls is given Elder guide walkers, chosen by the parents who travel the path alongside the child offering protection and guidance, love and support, advice and assistance as the child develops and ages. The Elder guide walkers make ready to stand in of the parents and the parental responsibility if anything should happen to the parents themselves. The Elder guide walkers should have an active part within the child’s life as it grows and matures and become a part of the council of elders that it will learn to trust and seek wisdom from.
